February 20, 2008 – More progress

I’ve always wondered why we feel that time moves at different speeds, depending on what we are going through in our lives.  For me, as I imagine it is for most, time seems to pass by very quickly when I am faced with challenging situations.  These past three weeks certainly have worn me out physically, mentally and emotionally.  Still, every time I reflect back, the three weeks seems more like three days.  I will be returning to work on Monday, so I am trying to use the remainder of this week the best I can.  While it will be tremendously difficult to not be so readily available, I am very thankful the girls are getting better each day.

We continue to see healthy progress with both Katelynn and Daria.  The distension in Katelynn’s abdomen seems to be getting better, but everyone is still anxiously waiting for her to clear out her digestive tract.  Her breast milk feedings have been slow, but the doctor cautiously increased the amount to 1.5 milliliters per hour.  Daria, on the other hand is now taking 5.5 milliliters per hour, and the latest order was to add even more calories through the use of a fortifier.

The highlight of the day came late this morning when I was at the hospital.  I had the opportunity to see Daria move off the bubble CPAP system to the less bulky nasal cannula.  This means we are one step closer to having the twins in the same incubator.
